Fostering Connections and Developing Communities for ADHD/Neurodiversity Support
The ADHD Action Network (AAN) is committed to addressing a critical need by offering affordable, high-impact, peer-to-peer support groups. These groups empower individuals to better manage their ADHD by fostering connections and building supportive communities centered around ADHD and neurodiversity, thereby enhancing mental well-being.
Evidence-Based Research on ADHD
ADHD is a widespread mental health issue that affects many and places significant strain on healthcare systems like the NHS. Traditional support often involves long waiting times or expensive private healthcare options, highlighting the need for innovative solutions. The AAN fills this gap by providing evidence-based, peer-to-peer programs that offer practical support and valuable resources for those living with ADHD.
Pilot Program Success: ADHD Action Network Celebrates Peer-to-Peer Empowerment
Location: Haringey, St. Anne’s Mental Hospital
Post Date: May 15, 2024
In response to the increasing demand for effective ADHD support, Haringey has launched the ADHD Action Network (AAN) in partnership with The Bridge Renewal Trust’s Tottenham Talking program. This groundbreaking initiative has successfully completed its first peer-to-peer support cohort, introducing innovative solutions to the community.
Program Overview
The pilot program engaged 10 participants in a customized 4-step process based on evidence-based best practices. Inspired by established peer-led group models like Alcoholics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, and Gamblers Anonymous, this approach has proven to reduce healthcare costs and improve support for participants nationwide.
Participant Testimonials
Feedback from the pilot program has been overwhelmingly positive. Dave, a participant, shared his thoughts: “It was great to see how the group bonded over relatable issues. A place for real conversations and non-judgmental sharing.”
Insights from Program Developers
Nick Pairaudeau, the program developer and co-producer, reflected on the initiative: “After navigating my own complex journey from reading about ADHD to receiving a diagnosis and seeking non-drug solutions, I felt compelled to create a program of positive action in collaboration with key stakeholders.”
Nick added, “I’m incredibly proud of the community in Haringey for their support in making this program a reality. Given the success of the pilot, we’re committed to continuing this work and developing more innovative solutions to support the residents of Haringey.”
Looking Ahead
The success of this pilot program provides a solid foundation for future initiatives. AAN is dedicated to expanding its reach and developing more tailored programs to help individuals manage their ADHD effectively. Our targeted outreach strategy aims to inform and engage key stakeholders and individuals who may have or suspect they have ADHD, raising awareness and encouraging participation in our programs.
